A\ufeffustralian tennis<\/a> player Jordan Thompson<\/a> has taken home the Los Cabos Open title after a shock straight sets victory over world No. 12 Casper Ruud.<\/p>\n

It's Thompson's first ever ATP tour title, meaning he'll now jump to a career-high ranking of world No.32.<\/p>\n

Thompson reflected on his intense week in the lead up to his special victory.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"I spent some serious hours on the court this week, and I want to thank everyone for staying up late last night and throughout the week. The crowd was amazing," Thompson said post match.<\/p>\n

"It's been a journey. I'm nearly 30 and I'm lifting a trophy. I never thought I would do that.<\/p>\n

"It's been an incredible week."<\/p>\n

But the win didn't come all that easy to the 29-year-old.\ufeff<\/p>\n

In the lead up to his special straight sets win, Thompson battled to survive the wrath of Alexander Zverev in the semi final.<\/p>\n

The Australian required eight match points to defeat Zverev, which he managed to pull off in over three and a half hours.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Before that, Thompson came from a 0-6, 1-4 deficit against the US's Alex Michelsen, before a magical comeback saw him take the match in three sets 0-6,\ufeff 7-6, 7-5.<\/p>\n

He takes home a massive $1.3 million for his victory.\ufeff<\/p>\n
