A\ufeffustralia<\/a>'s T20<\/a> superstar Tim David has produced a moment of magic, hitting a four off the last ball to defeat New Zealand in the first T20I<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The middle order batter came out with Australia 4-172, needing 44 runs off 19 balls.<\/p>\n

Off the last two overs, the Aussies needed 35 runs before that became 15 off the last six balls after David hit two sixes in a row.<\/p>\n

Veteran Tim Southee started his over in decent fashion but missed his mark with the fourth ball hit for six.<\/p>\n

The fifth delivery was hit for two, leaving David with four runs to win.<\/p>\n

David hit Southee's straight delivery low and hard to mid-wicket with Glenn Phillips unable to field it cleanly as the ball crashed into the ropes.<\/p>\n

\ufeff"That is unbelievable, Tim David take a bow," ex-Aussie cricketer Brendon Julian said on TVNZ.<\/p>\n

"Quite remarkable, Tim David that is some knock" former New Zealand cricketer Craig McMillan added. \ufeff<\/p>\n

David finished his innings with 31 not out off 10 balls but it was the man at the other end, Mitch Marsh<\/a>, who claimed player of the match honours with his 72 not out.<\/p>\n

Post-game, the skipper's praise all went to David.<\/p>\n

\ufeff"That was incredible … that's exactly why he's been incredible over the last two years in T20 tournaments all around the world and that was a pleasure to watch," Marsh said.<\/p>\n

The match started with New Zealand winning the toss and electing to bat and putting on a big total.<\/p>\n

Finn Allen (32), Devon Conway (63) and Rachin Ravindra (68) all dominated at the top of the order.<\/p>\n

Glenn Phillips (19 not out) and Mark Chapman (18 not out) added some late runs as the Black Caps finished 3-215. \ufeff<\/p>\n

For Australia, runs continued to flow but so did wickets with Travis Head (24), David Warner (32), Glenn Maxwell (25) and Josh Inglis (20) unable to stick around as Marsh continued to put in a captain's knock.<\/p>\n

Despite the big deficit when Inglis departed, David showed his class, hitting three sixes and two fours in his explosive innings.<\/p>\n

With that victory, Australia has now put one hand on the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy, with the next T20I of the three-match series to be played at Auckland on February 23. \ufeff<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
