There have been encouraging signs for Red Bull's<\/a> sister team after a shakedown ahead of F1<\/a> pre-season testing.<\/p>\n

The team, which refers to itself as VCARB, completed a designated filming day at Misano last week.<\/p>\n

This year marks the first full season for Daniel Ricciardo<\/a> since being dumped by McLaren<\/a> at the end of 2022.<\/p>\n

He'll join Yuki Tsunoda<\/a> in what could be a shootout between them for the seat tipped to be vacated by Sergio Perez<\/a> at Red Bull<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Speaking after the shakedown, Tsunoda offered some encouraging words.<\/p>\n

"I'm feeling great on the track. The first run with the car 01 went all smooth," said the Japanese driver.<\/p>\n

"Already felt a couple of steps improvement compared to last year and a really big step compared to the same time last year. So that was good."<\/p>\n

In recent years, the team formerly known as AlphaTauri went in its own direction with the development of its car.<\/p>\n

In the Toro Rosso era, it wasn't uncommon for their cars to bear a close resemblance to the sister Red Bull entries.<\/p>\n

There has been plenty said about VCARB and its alignment with Red Bull. Aesthetically, the VCARB 01 bears some similarities to last year's RB19, particularly the engine cover, side pod intakes, and front wing.<\/p>\n

"We want to be competitive, we want to be fighting hard in the midfield and really able to extract all the performance that the car has available and then we develop it from that point," said technical director Jody Egginton.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"I think if we can tick all of those boxes and get the best out of the car we'll be happy, and then have a clear direction to develop it.<\/p>\n

"There are objectives for the year starting from the first race. Formula 1is very competitive at the moment. It's very close. We had a strong finish to the year last year.<\/p>\n

"Our expectation is that we win that fight in the midfield and I know we can get into that fight a little bit earlier, be a bit more consistent and be a feature in all of the races, really battling hard in the fight for points and trying to extract the most from the car and from ourselves."<\/p>\n

Last year, the team finished eighth in the constructors' championship.<\/p>\n

Tsunoda wound up 14th in the drivers' championship, twice finishing a season-best eighth at Circuit of the Americas in the United States and the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.<\/p>\n

Ricciardo brought the team its best result in his limited schedule, finishing seventh at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico.<\/p>\n
