T\ufeffhe AFL<\/a>'s football boss Laura Kane has refused to confirm whether North Melbourne<\/a> will receive salary cap relief when Tarryn Thomas<\/a>' lengthy suspension is confirmed.<\/p>\n

9News reporter Tom Morris broke the news on Wide World of Sports that Thomas is set to be hit with an 18-week ban over allegations he acted inappropriately towards a woman<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While no police charges have been laid and the AFL is yet to sanction the penalty, the future of the troubled 23-year-old at Ardern Street is well and truly up in the air.<\/p>\n

Once the 18-week suspension is ratified it will leave Thomas with only four potential games\ufeff this year to earn himself a new contract.<\/p>\n

"We take all of those claims that come through our portal extremely seriously," Kane told 3AW's Wide World of Sports<\/em> radio on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

"Ultimately this one is a matter for our general counsel and our integrity team and they're continuing to work through this matter.<\/p>\n

"We're moving as quickly as we can given people are involved in this.<\/p>\n

"What I will say is we don't stand for that behaviour in this industry.\ufeff"<\/p>\n

Kane, though, would not be drawn on possible salary cap dispensation \ufefffor the Kangaroos once the ban is confirmed.<\/p>\n

Thomas is said to be earning between $600,000 and $700,000 this year, \ufeffwith still eight months' of that salary owed.<\/p>\n

The AFL's collective bargaining agreement makes it hard for a club to sack a player, and the fact Thomas hasn't been charged by police makes it likely he will remain on North Melbourne's books until his contract expires.<\/p>\n

\ufeffBut that would leave the Kangaroos forking out hundreds of thousands of dollars for an employee who can't fulfil his role.<\/p>\n

"We work through the TPP (total player payments) and any associated conditions that apply for players who come and go from our game with the club directly," Kane said when asked about salary cap relief.<\/p>\n

"We're very cognisant of the interest that people have, but it's not something we will go through publicly.<\/p>\n
