Parramatta<\/a> is considering approaching master coach Wayne Bennett<\/a> for 2025.<\/p>\n

But if the Eels do lure the seven-time premiership winner to Sydney's west, it may not necessarily signal the end of Brad Arthur's long tenure as the club's head coach.<\/p>\n

The Eels are toying with the idea of giving Bennett a coaching director role, similar to that which Phil Gould<\/a> holds at the Bulldogs<\/a>.<\/p>\n

That would enable the veteran coach to mentor Arthur and man-manage the players as the Eels attempt to end their long premiership drought.<\/p>\n

Bennett, who turned 74 recently, is stepping down as head coach of the Dolphins at the end of this season, with his assistant Kristian Woolf set to take over the reins.<\/p>\n

Despite his age, Bennett has made it clear the fire still burns in his belly and he is open to offers for next year.<\/p>\n

The Eels haven't tasted premiership success since 1986 and their long-suffering fans would welcome a man of Bennett's wisdom and experience into the ranks<\/p>\n

The Warriors have signed the little brother of star hooker Wayde Egan for the upcoming season.<\/p>\n

Tallan Egan, an 18-year-old half or five-eighth, has been a standout for Lithgow Storm in NSW bush footy over the past couple of years.<\/p>\n

The Kiwi junior league ranks have hundreds of fine young players at their disposal, but in a rare move, the Warriors signed Aussie-born Egan to play in the SG Ball Cup for 2024.<\/p>\n

It's a clear indication of just how talented the kid is – and he should thrive being reunited with big brother Wayde in Auckland in the coming years.<\/p>\n

TEEN COULD SOLVE RED V ISSUES\ufeff<\/h3>\n

The Dragons are still struggling to score tries in the top grade after just one trial game – but have no such problems in the SG Ball Cup.<\/p>\n

Speedy 18-year-old winger\/centre Jesse Williams has scored seven tries in the opening three rounds of the competition, including a hat-trick in last weekend's 60-10 thrashing of the North Sydney Bears.<\/p>\n

The teenager recently signed a two-year deal with the club and is destined for big things at the Big Red V.<\/p>\n

LEGENDARY COACH RETURNS\ufeff<\/h3>\n

Brian Smith began his coaching career in the lower grades with Newtown in the 1970s – and he's still going strong, and has just taken on a new challenge.<\/p>\n

Smith, who turns 70 soon and coached both the Dragons and Eels to grand finals in his heyday, is back in his old hometown of Casino in northern NSW – as a coaching consultant for the local team.<\/p>\n

Smith played for the Casino Cougars as a youngster before moving to Sydney to play with Souths and St George so his career has gone the full circle.<\/p>\n

Smith is also a senior advisor with the thriving sport of Oztag in Australia so the passion for footy obviously still runs deep.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
