Tim Horan worries Noah Lolesio mightn't play for the Wallabies<\/a> again if he doesn't do enough to show Australia's newly-appointed head coach Joe Schmidt he should be capped.<\/p>\n

Lolesio will once again play for the Brumbies<\/a> in Super Rugby Pacific<\/a> this year where he'll likely be the first pick in the No.10 jersey.<\/p>\n

The 24-year-old played for the Wallabies under Dave Rennie in 2022 but was not picked by Eddie Jones in 2023.<\/p>\n

Left out of the Rugby World Cup squad that brought Australia its worst performance in history, Lolesio ventured to France anyway where he played club rugby for Toulon.<\/p>\n

Now, he's returned Down Under for the Super Rugby Pacific season.<\/p>\n

"I thought he should have been the first No.10 pick for the Wallabies going into the season and then Eddie (Jones) didn't pick him and then he went away," said Horan on Stan Sport's Super Rugby Pacific preview.<\/p>\n

"I think for Noah, he needs a really good season this year \u2013 put his hand up to the new Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt, otherwise I reckon he'll probably end up signing overseas and go offshore. We don't want to lose a player of his talent."<\/p>\n

Stan Sport commentator Mils Muliaina echoed Horan's sentiment, backing the fly-half to be\u00a0<\/p>\n

"Lolesio, for me, I totally agree \u2013 he's the key," said Muliaina.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\"Lolesio<\/p>\n

"It's always hard. He came back a little bit at the end, but it almost seemed like he was trying a little bit too hard to try and force himself in there.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"He's a really good player. He won't have that on his shoulders, that sort of expectation to try and push hard and impress someone like Eddie Jones because he's not there anymore."<\/p>\n

The Brumbies will name their team on Wednesday ahead of their first-round clash with the Rebels in Melbourne.<\/p>\n

There are a handful of notable omissions this year. Pete Samu has left to join Bordeaux in France while Nic White has headed to Perth to play for the Western Force.<\/p>\n

"Samu, for me, brought a little bit of gas every now and then," said Muliaina.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"He would be a big loss, but given what they've\u00a0gone through over the last few years and historically, they'll be there thereabouts, for sure."<\/p>\n

Horan added: "Tom Hooper covers Samu as you mentioned, (Ryan) Lonergan covers Nick White, so they haven't lost too much.<\/p>\n

"Steve Larkham (Brumbies coach), I think will play a bit of a different game plan this year. I reckon he'll play a bit more open expansive of when you don't have a Pete Samu out wide. Tom Hooper might have to play a bit of a different game plan."<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
