Just days out from the Super Rugby Pacific<\/a> season-opener, the Crusaders<\/a> have been rocked by the loss of Will Jordan to injury.<\/p>\n

The star fullback will sit out this year's competition in its entirety as a result.<\/p>\n

The Christchurch-based squad confirmed on Tuesday that Jordan is set to have surgery and will subsequently be sidelined for six months.<\/p>\n

Jordan was instrumental in the Crusaders' title-winning campaign in 2023 and starred for the All Blacks<\/a> in the Rugby World Cup<\/a>.<\/p>\n

"Will Jordan has recently been under conservative management due to a pre-existing shoulder injury from the 2023 season," a Crusaders statement read.<\/p>\n

"After assessment from the Crusaders medical team he will undergo surgery and as a result be unavailable for selection during the 2024 Super Rugby Pacific season.<\/p>\n

"He is expected to be fit to return to play in approximately six months."<\/p>\n

Macca Springer and Chay Fihaki are the top contenders to replace Jordan.<\/p>\n

It's a bitter blow for the Crusaders ahead of their clash against the Chiefs on Friday, a replay of last year's final.<\/p>\n

The team will be without several key playmakers at the start of the season.<\/p>\n

Ethan Blackadder is nursing a calf injury that could see him miss the opening four matches of the season. Meanwhile, David Havili will miss week one.<\/p>\n

Leigh Halfpenny suffered a serious chest injury in pre-season and will miss the season in full.<\/p>\n

Fergus Burke is out with a torn Achilles until at least April and Braydon Ennor is recovering from knee surgery that will likely keep him out of the season.<\/p>\n
