A\ufeffustralian football legend Matthew Lloyd<\/a> says Tarryn Thomas<\/a> will be "one of the most wasted talents that we've ever seen in the game".<\/p>\n

But the former champion goalkicker believes there could yet be a way for the troubled North Melbourne<\/a> player to resurrect his career, even if it does take some time.<\/p>\n

As revealed by Wide World of Sports on Monday<\/a>, the AFL<\/a> is poised to whack Thomas \ufeffwith an 18-game suspension for yet another alleged off-field incident.<\/p>\n

The exact details of the latest scandal are yet to be made public but it's understood the allegations are serious enough for the governing body to come down hard on the Kangaroos player.<\/p>\n

The Age reports Thomas is alleged to have behaved inappropriately towards a woman.\ufeff<\/p>\n

\ufeffThomas has spent long periods away from the Kangaroos previously for various off-field issues. In July he faced court for threatening to distribute intimate videos of his former partner. Those criminal charges were dropped by police, with Thomas dealt with by a diversion program.<\/p>\n

"In a situation like this – alleged violence against women – that just can't be tolerated," Lloyd told 3AW radio.<\/p>\n

"I've got no issues with the 18-week ban.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"\ufeffTarryn would be in the top five most talented players at North Melbourne. Maybe top three.<\/p>\n

"So you always get more chances when you're in the best three… I raised this with North and I saw a few nods. (They are) forever being sidetracked by issues… constantly dealing with off-field matters.<\/p>\n

"I put him in the Harley Bennell bracket, he will be lost to football and he will be one of the most wasted talents that we've ever seen in the game."<\/p>\n

Lloyd was part of a small AFL media contingent invited to an "off-the-record briefing" at North Melbourne recently.<\/p>\n

Kangaroos president Sonja Hood, CEO Jen Watt, \ufeffhead coach Alastair Clarkson, and football manager Todd Viney all fronted the gathering to answer questions, including relating to Thomas.<\/p>\n

"It was a very candid chat, they were open to any questions that were asked," Lloyd revealed.<\/p>\n

"You could sense the way they were talking (about Thomas) it has been a draining issue for them.<\/p>\n

"It was left in the hands of the AFL, they were expecting to hear three weeks ago what was happening with Tarryn Thomas.\ufeff"<\/p>\n

Once the AFL confirms the 18-week suspension it will leave Thomas with only a maximum of four games available to him this season.<\/p>\n

Given the 23-year-old is off contract it's likely his Kangaroos career will end at the conclusion of this season.<\/p>\n

Lloyd believes that while the road back to the AFL may be tough, there will likely be opportunities for Thomas to return.<\/p>\n

"I think he's just about finished," Lloyd said.<\/p>\n

"But if he was to go back next year and play somewhere non-AFL, show he's willing to make more of a commitment and show that he's a good person and can be trusted… someone would give him an opportunity in a few years' time.\ufeff"<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
