Israeli swimmer<\/a> Anastasia Gorbenko was booed by some of the crowd after finishing second in the women's 400m medley on the closing day of the World Aquatics Championships<\/a> in Qatar on Monday (AEDT).<\/p>\n

The 20-year-old Gorbenko was making poolside comments moments after the race when the jeers rang out at the Aspire Dome in Doha.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m just so happy to be here and represent my country in this hard time,\u201d Gorbenko said amid the Israel-Hamas war.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeing here with the Israeli flag means a lot to me and to my country, so that\u2019s the best I can do."<\/p>\n

As jeers rang out in the crowd,\ufeff others drowned them out with cheers.<\/p>\n

"I'm here to represent my country," Gorbenko added.<\/p>\n

"And I'm doing this with the Israeli flag and I'm proud of that. And whoever doesn't like it, it's just not my problem."<\/p>\n

British swimmer Freya Colbert won the race in four minutes and 37.14 seconds (4:37.14). Gorbenko clocked 4:37.36 and Italy\u2019s Sara Franceschi was third in 4:37.86. All three attended their medal ceremony.<\/p>\n
