A\ufeffustralia finished the World Aquatics Championships in Doha with two gold medals on the final night.<\/p>\n

Isaac Cooper, 20, clinched the men's 50m backstroke win, while the women's 4x100m medley relay team also took gold.<\/p>\n

It means Australia finishes the championships with 16 gold medals\ufeff.<\/p>\n

The swim team took three gold medals in total, as well as nine silver and four bronze.<\/p>\n

Cooper's win on Monday morning (AEDT) was all the more impressive given he became badly disoriented during the race.\ufeff<\/p>\n

The young gun later revealed he was hitting the lane ropes with his fingers, blaming the roof for his awkward positioning.<\/p>\n

\ufeffCooper had broken the national 50m men's backstroke record in his semi-final with 24.12, and swam 24.13 to win gold in the final.<\/p>\n

"I told my coach I would love a go at going under 24 tonight but I whacked my finger a couple of times," Cooper explained after winning gold.<\/p>\n

"The roof is curved\u2026 so it was a bit of a mind game to swim straight.<\/p>\n

"I am really proud of that swim\u2026 I have no idea what I am capable of but I think it's up to the individual to test it.<\/p>\n

"This event isn't on the Olympic program so my goal is to now focus on 100 back \u2013 and the 50m free. And now I know my front-end speed is there, I have to hold my speed and learn how to turn around and come back. But my focus is the 50m free.<\/p>\n

"I would love to one day become the fastest man in the world. Whether it happens this year or in 10 years.<\/p>\n

"But I also know my country needs me for the backstroke, in the relays, so I'm training for that as well."<\/p>\n

In the women's medley relay, Shayna Jack finished strongly to ensure gold alongside teammates Iona Anderson, Abbey Harkin, and Brianna Throssell.<\/p>\n
