Joe Root<\/a>'s unique dismissal in England<\/a>'s first innings of their third Test against India<\/a> has split opinion after he switched hit a Jasprit Bumrah<\/a> delivery to Yashasvi Jaiswal in the slips.<\/p>\n

The England batter was dismissed for 18 with the side 2-224 at the time after India finished all out on 445.<\/p>\n

Root's dismissal sparked a spectacular collapse with England bowled out for 319 as his poor form continues, averaging just 14 in this series. \ufeff<\/p>\n

Jaiswal's juggling catch caught the eye of \ufeffIndian legend Sunil Gavaskar who called it "unbelievable" before analysing Root's risky shot.<\/p>\n

"It's very difficult when a batsman is looking to play the reverse scoop to keep your focus on the edge \u2013 because suddenly the edge is gone with the reverse scoop. When you're playing a normal drive, you're seeing the back of the bat and the edge," he said on the TV coverage.<\/p>\n

"Now suddenly you're seeing the face of the bat, so it's never easy for a slips fielder to do that. So it's a great catch."<\/p>\n

Ex-England opener Nick Knight added there was an obvious frustration to the former England captain as he walked off the ground. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"Joe Root is furious with himself because he probably feels he should've hit that for four and why was he playing that shot at that particular time," he said.<\/p>\n

"It is what they do, but on this occasion Joe Root \u2026 will feel like he's missed out massively.<\/p>\n

"It's a brave shot that's brought him a lot of runs over an extended period. But I just feel right now, he's short of runs, it's a flat pitch at the start of day three, Ben Duckett is at the other end, England [is] on top going at five-and-a-half runs per over \u2013 you wonder whether he might look back and think 'maybe I could've held that back for a bit longer'."<\/p>\n

In the wake of Root's dismissal, England \ufeffmedia personality Piers Morgan described it as the risk that can come with coach Brendon McCullum and captain Ben Stokes' Bazbalhasl philosophy.<\/p>\n

"England cricket fans who turn on players like Root whenever they get out to an aggressive shot need to give their traditional old wizened heads a massive wobble," he wrote on X.<\/p>\n

"Bazball is brilliant – good, bad, sometimes ugly, but usually scintillating, and always thrilling to watch."<\/p>\n

However, former England captain Michael Vaughan took exception to his fellow countryman's take, describing it as "utter rubbish".<\/p>\n

"The skipper doesn't Bazball .. he plays the situation .. Joe is far too good to gift India such a cheap wicket 20 minutes into a crucial day when they are down to 10 players," he said on X.<\/p>\n

"Sport is about changing styles at the right time."<\/p>\n

\ufeffVaughan's frustration with England continued when they were all out stating "England have wasted a huge opportunity today".<\/p>\n
