The Newcastle Knights<\/a>' opening trial win against the Cronulla Sharks<\/a> got off to the worst possible start on the Central Coast with centre Krystian Mapapalangi injured in the first hit-up of the game.<\/p>\n

Having missed all of the 2023 with a shoulder injury, Krystian Mapapalangi was knocked out in the very first hit-up after a nasty collision with Sharks No.4 Mawana Hiroti.<\/p>\n

From the kick off, Hiroti ran at his Knights opponent and the collision was sickening.<\/p>\n

"Straight away there's a problem … it's a big knock for Krystian Mapapalangi," commentator Matt Russell said on Fox.<\/p>\n

\"Newcastle's<\/p>\n

"His first tackle of the preseason challenge and that's the result."<\/p>\n

The stretcher was brought out to take Mapapalangi from the field, but thankfully it wasn't needed.<\/p>\n

Confirmation came not long after the collision that \ufeffthe centre's head injury assessment was deemed a category one, with Mapapalangi taking no further part in the match.<\/p>\n

After the Sharks shot out to a 12-0 lead after 12 minutes, the Knights came back with four unanswered tries.<\/p>\n

The momentum continued for Newcastle in the second half \ufeffwith youngster David Armstrong and new recruits Jack Cogger and Will Pryce going over.<\/p>\n

Armstrong had his second try of the afternoon in the 64th minute before Cronulla hit back through Tom Rodwell.<\/p>\n
