The ICC<\/a> has handed down a whopping 17-year ban to one cricketer for a litany of offences.<\/p>\n

UK-based player Rizwan Javed has been banned from all formats after being found guilty of match-fixing.<\/p>\n

Rizwan competed in the 2021 edition of the Abu Dhabi T10 Cricket League and was found to have breached the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) Anti-Corruption Code for Participants.<\/p>\n

Five separate breaches were levelled against Rizwan, and because he did not respond to the allegations he was found guilty.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Rizwan was found to have breached the following offences:<\/p>\n

Article 2.1.1 – Being party to an attempt to fix, contrive or influence improperly matches or aspects of matches in the Abu Dhabi T10 2021 (on three separate occasions).<\/p>\n

Article 2.1.3 – Offering a Reward to another Participant in exchange for that player engaging in Corrupt Conduct.<\/p>\n

Article 2.1.4 – Directly or indirectly soliciting, inducing, enticing, instructing, persuading, encouraging or intentionally facilitating any Participant to breach Code Article 2.1 (on three separate occasions).<\/p>\n

Article 2.4.4 – Failing to disclose to the DACO full details of any approaches or invitations received to engage in Corrupt Conduct under the Code.<\/p>\n

Article 2.4.6 – Failing or refusing, without compelling justification, to cooperate with any investigation carried out by the DACO in relation to possible Corrupt Conduct under the Code.<\/p>\n

The ban is backdated to September, 2023 when the charges were laid.<\/p>\n

Rizwan was one of eight players and officials sanctioned by the ICC.<\/p>\n

The most high profile was Bangladesh international Nasir Hossain, who is currently serving a two-year ban.<\/p>\n

The ICC said the sanctioning should "send a message" to those thinking of committing similar offences.<\/p>\n

"Rizwan Javed has received a lengthy ban from cricket for his repeated and serious attempts to corrupt professional cricketers," said ICC integrity general manager Alex Marshall.<\/p>\n

"The sanction imposed should send a strong message to other corrupters trying to target cricket at any level and demonstrates that any attempt to corrupt cricket will be strongly dealt with."<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
