Melbourne's strong Greek contingent were never going to be on Daniil Medvedev's side in his semi-final clash against Hellenic prodigy Stefanos Tsitsipas, but at times it border-lined on unfair.<\/p>\n

Not that it worried the Russian star who booked his spot in the Australian Open final with a straight-sets victory over his younger rival.<\/a><\/p>\n

But as the raucous "pro-Tsitsipas" crowd attempted to rally the Greek into the match by whatever means necessary, the umpire was forced to intervene on more than one occasion.<\/p>\n

Attempting to serve the first set out at 5-4, a member of the crowd was heard screaming as Medvedev commenced his toss.<\/p>\n

While it didn't seem to bother the Russian who went on to claim the first set, umpire James Keothavong had heard enough, asking the crowd for some decorum.<\/p>\n

The crowd would cop another serve from Keothavong when they spurred Tsitsipas to a third-set comeback which nearly saw him push the match to a fourth-set.<\/p>\n

Going wild in the stands, the Greeks rallied Tsitsipas to break the Russian and lock the set up at 5-5. With the excitement bubbling, some members of the crowd began screaming during crucial points.<\/p>\n

While Keothavong was good enough to see the lighter side, he nonetheless needed to interject.<\/p>\n

"It's great to hear you supporting your player, but please be fair to both players," Keothavong said over his microphone.<\/p>\n

For all the excitement in the stands, it wasn't enough to undo Medvedev who became the first Russian to reach the men's Australian Open final since Marat Safin in 2005.<\/p>\n
