Corey Norman<\/a> has been handed a $20,000 fine and a two match suspension, with one match suspended for 12 months, after his involvement in an alleged street fight in January<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Dragons star was issued with the breach notice after it was alleged that he brought the game into disrepute with his actions in Cronulla on January 22.<\/p>\n

In addition to his suspension and fine, Norman will undergo education and training as a part of the NRL's penalties.<\/p>\n

NRL CEO Andrew Abdo admitted that Norman had been provoked prior to the fight, indicating that the suspension had taken that factor into account.<\/p>\n

"We accept there was a degree of provocation which led to the incident, but as a game we have been very clear that provocation is not an excuse to engage in a street fight,'' he said.<\/p>\n

"Our players are role models for younger people in our community and they need to set the example for how to respond in such circumstances.<\/p>\n

"We will always support our players who are subject to any form of abuse, but any form of violence is not an acceptable response."<\/p>\n

Norman and the Dragons have five days to appeal the breach notice from the NRL, with the club releasing a statement in response on Saturday morning.<\/p>\n

"St George Illawarra have received a breach notice from the NRL Integrity Unit regarding an altercation involving Dragons five-eighth Corey Norman in January," the statement read.<\/p>\n

"The notice dictates Norman be fined $20,000 and suspended for two matches (with one game suspended).<\/p>\n

"The Dragons will work closely with Corey over the coming week to determine a position on the breach notice imposed.<\/p>\n

"The club will make no further comment."<\/p>\n
