It has been revealed that Tottenham Hotspur<\/a> and South Korea<\/a> captain Son Heung-Min injured his finger during an altercation with teammates the night before the national team's shock semi-final loss to Jordan at the Asian Cup.<\/p>\n

Several players were involved in an altercation that broke out at a team dinner last Tuesday, leading to a scuffle between Son and one teammate.<\/p>\n

The incident reportedly escalated after a few younger players on the team \u2014 including Paris Saint-Germain's Lee Kang-in \u2014 left the dinner early so they could play table tennis.<\/p>\n

The early departure from dinner reportedly displeased some of the team's older members as dinner time on the eve of matches is customarily used as team bonding time.<\/p>\n

Son approached the younger players and tried to talk to them but the situation turned physical when they refused to listen to him.<\/p>\n

In his frustration,\ufeff Son grabbed Lee, who responded by trying to land a punch on him.<\/p>\n

The two players needed to be pulled apart with Son dislocating his finger in the melee.<\/p>\n

"It happened when some young players went up to play table tennis, and Son Heung-Min and other older players took issue with it," a South Korean Football Federation official told South Korea's Yonhap News Agency on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

"The players exchanged a few words and Son hurt his finger in the process."<\/p>\n

Son lined up for the match the next day with his right index and middle finger strapped together.<\/p>\n

One of the favourites to win the Asian Cup, South Korea were upset 2-0 by Jordan having failed to land a single scoring shot on target.<\/p>\n

Lee has since apologised for the incident via an Instagram story.<\/p>\n

"We have caused great disappointment to the soccer fans who always support our national team. I'm really sorry," he said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

"I should have taken the lead and followed my brothers' instructions, but I'm just sorry for showing football fans a bad image. I apologise to the many people who were disappointed by me.<\/p>\n

"From now on, I will try to help my brothers become better players and people."<\/p>\n

The Korean Football Association have not yet addressed the matter publicly.<\/p>\n

Since returning from the competition, which was won by host nation Qatar, Son came off the bench to rescue Tottenham's 2-1 victory over Brighton on Sunday<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Just as the points looked set to be shared, Son sent a cross for fellow substitute Brennan Johnson to crash in a close-range winner deep in stoppage time.<\/p>\n
