Sydney FC<\/a> striker Patrick Wood will be counting his lucky stars that his missed "astonishing" missed chance against the Mariners<\/a> didn't come back to bite him.<\/p>\n

In the first-half of Saturday night's A-League<\/a> clash at Central Coast Stadium, with the visitors already leading 3-0, Wood had the opportunity to put the result even further out of reach with a simple task at hand.<\/p>\n

After opposing keeper Danny Vukovic came up with a howler a couple of metres out from his own goal, \ufeffWood pounced and went to tap the ball into the back of the net.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, despite the close proximity, the 21-year-old sprayed it wide of the near-post to the disbelief of everyone inside the ground.<\/p>\n

"Anything can and does happen, because you will never see that again," the commentator said during the Paramount coverage.<\/p>\n

"That is the most astonishing miss.<\/p>\n

"Poor old Pat Wood, he must be wishing the ground would just swallow him up."<\/p>\n

The other commentator ever bought into the online perception of the competition, describing the error as "peak A-League" to rub further salt into the wounds. \ufeff<\/p>\n

Thankfully for Wood and his teammates, the error didn't prove costly, with Sydney able to collect all three points with a 3-1 triumph on the road, with the hosts scoring a consolation goal in the 56th minute. <\/p>\n

Rhyan Grant scored in the 4th minute and Anthony Caceres extended the lead in the 8th minute, before an own-goal from Mariners player Dan Hall made matters worse.<\/p>\n
