S\ufeffummer McIntosh just did the unthinkable, consigning Katie Ledecky<\/a> to defeat in an 800m freestyle final.<\/p>\n

Not since 2010\ufeff had Ledecky lost an 800m freestyle final, but in Orlando on Friday morning (AEDT), the Canadian teen thrashed the American legend.<\/p>\n

McIntosh surged to victory at the Southern Zone South Sectional Championships in 8:11.39, chopping 8.80 seconds from her personal best to set new Commonwealth and Canadian records, and become the second-fastest woman over that distance in history.<\/p>\n

Ledecky finished 5.73 seconds behind her 17-year-old\ufeff rival.<\/p>\n

Before McIntosh's swim, Ledecky had the 29 fastest times in women's 800m freestyle history. Now,\ufeff the three-time defending Olympic champion owns the 16 fastest times.<\/p>\n

McIntosh's domination of Ledecky in Orlando follows her victory over the 26-year-old in December, when she trumped her rival in the 400m freestyle at the US Open<\/a>.\ufeff<\/p>\n

On Friday morning, McIntosh pinched the women's Commonwealth record from Australian golden girl Ariarne Titmus, who had set it at 8:13.59 at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, and took the\ufeff Canadian women's record from Brittany MacLean, who had clocked 8:20.02 in 2010.<\/p>\n

McIntosh was just 14 when she made her Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020, where she finished fourth in the 400m freestyle.\ufeff<\/p>\n
