The plot has thickened \ufeffin the race to wear the Queensland<\/a> No.10 jersey this season after 19-year-old Harry McLaughlin-Phillips was handed his audition in Saturday's trial game against NSW in Roma.<\/p>\n

McLaughlin-Phillips, the Junior Wallabies star, impressed off the bench with his direct running game in last weekend's 21-19 loss to the Force in Brisbane.<\/a><\/p>\n

Lawson Creighton started at five-eighth in that game with James O'Connor (hamstring) and Tom Lynagh (back) not considered.<\/p>\n

O'Connor remains sidelined \ufefffor the match at Gallas Fox Park but Lynagh has been included on the Reds bench as new coach Les Kiss continues to assess his options in rugby's most important position.<\/p>\n

"We have a variety of skills within the good depth we have at No.10. Harry gets a chance," Kiss said.<\/p>\n

Curiously, the Reds and Waratahs are squaring off a fortnight before the fierce state rivals meet again in their Super Rugby Pacific season opener at Suncorp Stadium.<\/p>\n

"We always have a tough game against the Waratahs whether it's a trial or a match during the season," Reds lock Ryan Smith said.<\/p>\n

"They have a lot of Wallabies in the fold and the tight five is going to be a great area to test our set piece."<\/p>\n

Waratahs coach Darren Coleman has handed starts to captain Jake Gordon, new lock \ufeffMiles Amatosero and wingers Mark Nawaqanitawase and Dylan Pietsch after that important quartet sat out last weekend's 38-12 loss to the Rebels in Melbourne.<\/p>\n

Key men Max Jorgensen, Dave Porecki, \ufeffIzaia Perese, Ned Hanigan and Fergus Lee-Warner are all missing from the team sheet as they continue to recover from injury.<\/p>\n

The Q\ufeffueensland and NSW women's teams will also meet in a trial game in Roma on Saturday as they build towards their Super W season openers in March.<\/p>\n
