South Sydney<\/a> centre Campbell Graham is set to undergo surgery on a persisting sternum injury which is expected to sideline him for up to six months.<\/p>\n

Graham will go under the knife next week to repair damage to his sternum which plagued his 2023 season.<\/p>\n

The \ufeff24-year-old played out the last year with the injury, receiving painkilling injections every game to manage the discomfort, and has participated in non-contact elements of pre-season training.<\/p>\n

Club medical staff had hoped the injury would heal on its own with rest during the off-season, however a decision was ultimately made to have surgery on the affected area.<\/p>\n

Campbell had previously tried bone infusion treatment to heal the bone. The remedy is commonly used to treat osteoporosis.<\/p>\n

The Rabbitohs expect Graham to return to the field in the second half of the regular season.<\/p>\n

Graham's lengthy stint on the sidelines all but rules out any hope of him making his Origin<\/a> debut for the Blues<\/a> this year.<\/p>\n

The \ufeffKangaroos outside back was picked as Brad Fittler's 18th man for Origin I before being released from the extended squad almost immediately afterwards because of concerns for his sternum injury<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In a separate event, \ufeffGraham underwent a shoulder reconstruction earlier in the break which is reportedly healing well.<\/p>\n

Graham was one of the best centres in the competition last year, scoring 16 tries in his 21 appearances for the Rabbitohs.<\/p>\n

Last July, he signed a new, multi-year deal with the club<\/a> which will keep him at South Sydney until the end of 2027.<\/p>\n

Isaiah Tass will likely fill Graham's spot in the centres for the Rabbitohs' highly-anticipated season-opener in Las Vegas on Sunday, March 3.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
