South Africa<\/a>'s sensational tour of Australia<\/a> has continued, punishing the hosts for a sloppy performance by recording an 84-run victory in a rain-affected second ODI at North Sydney Oval.<\/p>\n

It was only the Proteas' second-ever win over Australia, less than two weeks after their historic first in Canberra<\/a> in the second T20.<\/p>\n

Ashleigh Gardner and Kim Garth combined in the highest ever ninth-wicket partnership in women's ODIs to give the home side a sniff, but it was too little too late.<\/p>\n

"History in the making once yet again on this tour down under for South Africa," Mel Jones said in commentary for Fox Sports after the final Aussie wicket, Megan Schutt, fell.<\/p>\n

"It's a magnificent result for a team that has been knocking on the door of this Australian side for years.<\/p>\n

"That's a win for the ages."<\/p>\n

The Aussies dropped five chances in the field, before several gave their wickets away with poor shot selection.<\/p>\n

On her one-day debut, Ayanda Hlubi picked up the key wicket of Ellyse Perry and then Annabel Sutherland on her way to figures of 2-41.<\/p>\n

"What an introduction \u2026 a star is being born," Mel Jones said in commentary for Fox Sports after Sutherland chopped on for 1.<\/p>\n

But injury concerns to veteran Marizanne Kapp put a dampener on the night.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Kapp had earlier reminded the world why she was the No.1 ranked all-rounder by scoring 75 with the bat and before dismissing each of the top-three Aussie batters to finish with figures of 3-12 from five overs.<\/p>\n

Only a possible hamstring injury stopped her from bowling more. She was still awarded player-of-the-match honours.<\/p>\n

A highlight of Kapp's bowling was an absolute jaffa to first-drop Beth Mooney, two balls after another peach had Alyssa Healy caught behind.<\/p>\n

From there, the Aussies never looked likely in the chase. Perry, Sutherland, Tahlia McGrath and Alana King all undone by poor shot selection.<\/p>\n

The Aussies were 8-71 in the 14th over when Gardner and Garth came to the crease. They put on a women's ODI record 77 for the ninth wicket and gave the Aussies a sniff.<\/p>\n

Gardner and Garth both looked comfortable and were scoring quickly before Eliz-Mari Marx had Gardner caught behind for a sensational 35.<\/p>\n

Gardner's wicket brought Megan Schutt to the crease, and she lasted just four balls before Chloe Tryon had her out lbw.<\/p>\n

Schutt reviewed the decision, but ball tracking had the ball just clipping leg stump and the decision stood. The Aussies were all out for 149.<\/p>\n

An hour-long rain delay in the middle of the South African innings reduced the match to 45 overs a side.<\/p>\n

South Africa posted 6-229 from their 45 overs, Kapp's 75 supported by 44 from Anneke Bosch and a run a ball 37 from Chloe Tryon at the death.<\/p>\n

The Australian target was increased to 234 under the Duckworth Lewis Stern calculation.<\/p>\n

The Aussies struck early when Megan Schutt had Laura Wolvaardt caught for a duck with the third ball of the match.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Eight Aussies were given a chance to bowl at the Proteas batters, with Gardner and Schutt taking two wickets each.<\/p>\n
