Australian middle-distance ace Peter Bol<\/a> has had a setback in his build-up for Paris 2024<\/a>,\ufeff suffering an injury that's wiped him from two early-season races.<\/p>\n

Bol had been scheduled compete over 1500m at the Adelaide Invitational on Saturday, as well as the mile at Melbourne's Maurie Plant Meet next Thursday, but the two-time Olympian<\/a> has withdrawn to focus on training and rehabilitation.<\/p>\n

"Due to an unfortunate injury, I have had to make the difficult decision to delay the start of my Australian season," Bol wrote on Instagram on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

"I will not be participating in the upcoming races in Adelaide and Melbourne.<\/p>\n

"I am still running and training but cannot push myself too hard at the moment. My priority at the moment is to focus on rehab and ensuring that my body is in optimal condition."<\/p>\n

The setback comes as another blow to Bol after his hellish 2023, which saw him falsely accused of failing a drug test for erythropoietin (EPO)<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He copped a provisional suspension in January, and although that was lifted when his B sample came back atypical in February, Sport Integrity Australia (SIA) claimed to still be investigating the Commonwealth Games silver medallist.<\/p>\n

In August, it was revealed both his A and B samples should have been ruled negative, and he was exonerated.<\/p>\n

Bol raced over 800m, his specialist distance, at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest in August, but crashed out in the heats<\/a>. He had arrived at the world titles exhausted by the drug test saga.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Saturday's Adelaide Invitational was supposed to mark Bol's first race in Australia since 2022. The 29-year-old was set to line up against fellow Olympian Jye Edwards and teen prodigy Cameron Myers<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He was slated to run in a highly anticipated John Landy Mile in Melbourne five days later, against British world champion Jake Wightman, Myers, Australian Olympians Stewart McSweyn and Edwards, and Kiwi Olympian Sam Tanner.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
