Clyde Fortuin's freakish second innings dismissal at the hands of part-time bowler Glenn Phillips summed up a dreadful first Test for South Africa<\/a> against New Zealand<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Seeking his first Test wicket on home soil, Phillips bowled a "half-tracker" that the Proteas wicketkeeper-batter duly pounced upon, rocking back to smack a pull shot.<\/p>\n

But Fortuin erred, hitting the ball straight into Tom Latham's knee at short-leg, which sent the ball straight up into the air.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Black Caps wicketkeeper Tom Blundell raced across from the pitch to catch the ball and dismiss his opposite.<\/p>\n

Commentator Craig McMillan could only chuckle in disbelief at the dismissal, offering Fortuin some pity.<\/p>\n

"If that doesn't sum up this Test match for South Africa, then I don't know what does," said the former Test batter.<\/p>\n

"Unlucky for Clyde Fortuin. It's just a long hop that normally you'd hit for four any day of the week.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"This time, it hits the knee of short leg and just pops up. Could have gone anywhere. Sums up South Africa's fortunes really.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"It just popped up and the wicketkeeper got across. Blundell said 'Thanks very much' Glenn Phillips has got a wicket.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"Clyde Fortuin is standing there in disbelief. Honestly cannot believe that that has just happened. Says 'How unlucky am I? What have I done wrong?'\u00a0<\/p>\n

"That's a big piece of luck for New Zealand."<\/p>\n

Fortuin was the seventh wicket to fall as South Africa sought to chase an unlikely target of 529 on day four of the Test at Mount Maunganui.<\/p>\n

New Zealand were put in to bat first and set 511 after a double century from Rachin Ravindra and a ton from Kane Williamson.<\/p>\n
