New Dolphins<\/a> recruit Tom Flegler was a standout for the Broncos<\/a> in their grand final defeat to the Panthers<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The representative prop \ufeffgot Brisbane on the board with a charging run towards the posts just before the main break, made 32 tackles without a miss and put in the hard yards despite a HIA scare in the opening half.<\/p>\n

Flegler signed a four-year deal with the Dolphins<\/a> ahead of last season, consequently forgoing the opportunity to rewrite the grand final result with the Broncos in 2024.<\/p>\n

Reflecting on the loss four months on, Flegler admitted that the two-point deficit stung for a while but he was now focused on replicating the same competitiveness that led the Broncos to the decider at the Dolphins.<\/p>\n

"It was tough to take at the time \ufeffbut that's just footy \u2014 you win some and you lose some," he told Wide World of Sports.<\/p>\n

"As blunt as it sounds, it just wasn't our night.<\/p>\n

"So, onto new things now. There are always opportunities.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffI'm not at the same club anymore but I'm striving to be in the same position I was in [with the Broncos] with the Dolphins."<\/p>\n

Experiencing his first pre-season under Wayne Bennett<\/a>, Flegler said his move up the road to Brisbane's cross-town rival was panning out well.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffIt's been good," he said.<\/p>\n

"A big but small move\ufeff \u2014 I'm still living in the same place. But I'm really enjoying it so far and hopefully, there are many memories to make."<\/p>\n

Flegler made 96 first-grade appearances for Brisbane across five seasons and was crucial to the club's run in 2023, but he insisted that it was the right time to make the switch.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffIt just came at a good time in my career so far," he said<\/p>\n

"\ufeffIt was the perfect fit with me, with the time and place, so it made sense."<\/p>\n

Asked what it will be like to come up against his old side in round six, \ufeffFlegler said there was bound to be a bit of banter with his former teammates.<\/p>\n

"It will obviously be a big match as it's the two Brisbane teams going at it," he said,<\/p>\n

"\ufeffThere'll be a bit of friendly rivalry, nothing personal, just a good, tough game of footy.<\/p>\n

"There'll probably be a bit of \ufefflip but all [still] mates after the game."<\/p>\n

The 24-year-old also proposed one ex-teammate who would not be afraid to mouth off.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffI would bet on Billy Walters in the middle," he quipped.<\/p>\n

Having stunned the competition by winning nine games in their inaugural season\ufeff, including six before their bye in round 11, Flegler feels the Dolphins can continue to make waves in 2024.<\/p>\n

"The goal for us \ufeffthis season is to focus on finals footy," he said.<\/p>\n

'It's only early days, we haven't even played round one yet, but \ufeffthat's our goal."<\/p>\n
