Ajla Tomljanovic will be sidelined "for a couple of weeks" after undergoing surgery to remove non-cancerous tumours.<\/p>\n

The Australian tennis star took to social media where she encouraged men and women to learn more about the disease.<\/p>\n

"Hello everyone, unfortunately, I won't be competing for a couple of weeks\u2026 was very much looking forward to the next hard court events," she wrote.<\/p>\n

"I had to get some uterine fibroids removed and will be watching from home while healing.<\/p>\n

Uterine fibroids can cause menstrual bleeding, back pain, frequent urination and pain during sex.<\/p>\n

The don't often cause serious complications but can cause unmanageable pain as well as excessive bleeding, swelling of the abdomen, or in extremely rare cases infertility.<\/p>\n

Ons Jabeur, Sloane Stephens, and Caroline Garcia all wished Tomljanovic a "speedy recovery."<\/p>\n

Australian Open 2021 runner-up Jennifer Brady offered a cheeky comment, posting: "Still looking flawless even on a day of surgery."<\/p>\n

The surgery is latest in a string of setbacks for the Croatian-born athlete.<\/p>\n

Tomljanovic spent much of the 2023 season sidelined with a knee injury.<\/p>\n

She returned at the back end of the calendar for the US Open and pulled out in the second round when her knee flared up again.<\/p>\n

Tomljanovic contested her home grand slam, the Australian Open, last month, where she defeated Petra Martic before being downed by Jelena Ostapenko in the second round.<\/p>\n

Her most recent appearance at the Thailand Open saw her exit after the first round against Dalma Galfi.<\/p>\n
