New Blues<\/a> coach Michael Maguire<\/a> will welcome Jack Wighton<\/a> back into the State of Origin<\/a> fold with open arms, should the player choose to return.<\/p>\n

\ufeffWighton made the shock decision last year to retire from representative football, instead opting to focus his energy on club football.<\/p>\n

Still he left the Raiders without a premiership to show for a decade-long career in the lime green\ufeff.<\/p>\n

The 31-year-old has jumped ship to South Sydney, and it might not be the only change of heart Wighton has.<\/p>\n

The utility back is said to be considering \ufeffending his short-lived retirement and making himself available for New South Wales selection.<\/p>\n

It would mean a reunion with Maguire, who acted as assistant coach at Canberra and now replaces Brad Fittler as the man tasked with stopping another Queensland dynasty before it begins.<\/p>\n

"I enjoyed working in Canberra over the last 12 months with Ricky Stuart and the playing group, including Jack," Maguire told SEN radio on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

"Jack wants to settle himself in Sydney and with his new club.<\/p>\n

"He's still retired (from Origin) but I told him to get himself playing and see how he's travelling.<\/p>\n

"We'll have a discussion as the season transpires. We all know he's a big-game player whenever he's in that arena.<\/p>\n

"In time, I'm sure Jack will decide whether he's ready to go again."<\/p>\n

Wighton has 10 Origin games to his name since debuting in the blue jersey in 2019 and playing three straight series, two of which the Blues won.<\/p>\n

His last game was a demoralising game one loss \ufeffin Sydney in 2022, and he didn't play the 2023 series.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
