F\ufefformer AFL<\/a> boss Gill McLachlan<\/a> is reportedly poised to resume his professional rivalry with Peter V'landys<\/a>.<\/p>\n

McLachlan stood down as AFL chief executive officer only four months ago, but is now a leading candidate to become Racing Victoria's new chair, according to The Age<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\ufeffThe newspaper says he is yet to accept an offer to replace Brian Kruger, who resigned in June.\ufeff<\/p>\n

If McLachlan does become chair of Victoria's horse racing body it would put him on a collision course – again – with V'landys.<\/p>\n

V'landys is the Racing NSW boss as well as chairman of the Australian Rugby League Commission.<\/p>\n

\ufeffWhile chief of Australian football's top professional league, McLachlan butted heads with V'landys, who has essentially \ufefftaken charge of the NRL since becoming ARLC chairman.<\/p>\n

Former ARLC chairs have left the running of the NRL to the league's CEO, but the famously headstrong and ruthless V'landys has played a hands on role since assuming the role in 2019.<\/p>\n

He has also made it his mission to go to war with Racing Victoria\ufeff.<\/p>\n

V'landys has attempted to make NSW the racing capital of Australia, despite Melbourne typically laying claim to the country's most prestigious equine events.<\/p>\n

He is the mastermind behind Sydney's $20m The Everest, the \ufeff$10m Golden Eagle, and the recent addition of The Big Dance which runs on Melbourne Cup day.<\/p>\n

Racing Victoria is yet to confirm McLachlan as a leading candidate, and the decision will ultimately fall to Victorian racing minister Anthony Carbines\ufeff.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
