T\ufeffhe arrival of Des Hasler<\/a> has breathed new life into the Titans<\/a> according to captain Tino Fa'asuamaleaui<\/a>, who believes the club is primed for a premiership tilt in 2024.<\/p>\n

After missing the finals once again last year, Gold Coast was forced into a coaching change as Justin Holbrook<\/a> was dumped mid-season and opened the door for two-time premiership winner Hasler to sign on the dotted line.<\/p>\n

Hasler has been to the top of the NRL<\/a> on two occasions with Manly<\/a> as a head coach, while also taking Canterbury<\/a> to grand final appearances in 2012 and 2014.<\/p>\n

And while his old-school approach might scare some players off, Fa'asuamaleaui is adamant Hasler's influence is exactly what the Titans have been lacking.<\/p>\n

\ufeff"He has a real care for his players and pushes accountability," he said on Monday.<\/p>\n

"He's keeping boys accountable with their actions and also cares about the family side too. If anyone needs something, he's the first one there.<\/p>\n

"That's what the boys want and need at the Titans and that's what we've got now, so we don't want to let that go and we want to repay Des for what he's done.<\/p>\n

"He's been there and done it with some great leaders. It takes the pressure off me and allows me to make sure I'm leading the boys on the field.<\/p>\n

"Instead of me having to yell at someone for dropping the ball, he's there to do it."<\/p>\n

Fa'asuamaleaui, 23, is one of the youngest full-time captains in the competition. He has become a face of the franchise in recent years and cemented himself as one of the sport's elite middle forwards.<\/p>\n

His decision to commit to the Titans on a fresh 10-year deal \ufeffshortly after Hasler's decision to join the club is a telltale sign of the belief from the Maroons enforcer, who will be hoping to add another premiership ring to his collection after winning with the Melbourne Storm as a youngster in 2020.<\/p>\n

Quizzed on whether or not Gold Coast can compete for the title this season, Fa'asuamaleaui gave the most ringing endorsement of the coach and squad possible.<\/p>\n

"One hundred per cent [we can]," he said.<\/p>\n

"I think we've got the team to do it, we've got the forward pack to do it, and this is probably the best pre-season that I've been a part of.<\/p>\n

"We're definitely creating our identity, but we've still got to put the actions in."\ufeff<\/p>\n

With the likes of Fa'asuamaleaui, Moeaki Fotuaika and David Fifita laying the foundation, many are tipping the Titans to be one of the league's biggest improvers after a disappointing 14th-placed finish last year.<\/p>\n

Kieran Foran remains at the helm in the No.6 jumper and adds experience to their playmaking stocks, while speedsters AJ Brimson and Jayden Campbell have the spark and game-breaking ability to cause havoc for any opposition. \ufeff<\/p>\n
