New Zealand<\/a> young gun R\ufeffachin Ravindra has continued his meteoric rise, scoring a blistering double-century in the first Test against South Africa<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 24-year-old has been a revelation for the Black Caps in white-ball cricket in recent years and has now made an early impact in the Test arena in just three matches.<\/p>\n

Coming in at No.4 against the Proteas, Ravindra finished with 240 from 366 balls, scoring 27 boundaries in the process as the hosts piled on the runs at Bay Oval.<\/p>\n

The left-hander burst onto the scene at last year's World Cup, scoring a century in his side's opening match and cementing himself as a player of the future.<\/p>\n

Ravindra recently picked up the ICC Emerging Player of the Year \ufeffand his performance against an undermanned South African outfit was his maiden Test hundred in his third appearance.<\/p>\n

He wasn't the only player in the runs however, with former captain Kane Williamson<\/a> (118) adding another ton to his incredible Test career, leading from the front after the hosts lost a couple of early wickets.<\/p>\n

Matt Henry (27) also produced a swashbuckling late cameo\ufeff, blasting three sixes and one four in a nine-ball innings to help the Kiwis reach a total of 511 in their first innings.<\/p>\n

The one highlight in a tough two days at the office for South Africa came in the form of new captain Neil Brand, who finished with figures of 6-11\ufeff9 from 26 overs, and also \ufefftook a remarkable caught-and-bowled to dismiss Daryl Mitchell.<\/p>\n
