B\ufeffen McDermott<\/a> is likely to end a near two-year exile from Australia's ODI team<\/a> after he was called up to the squad, replacing Matt Short.<\/p>\n

Short has been ruled out of the third ODI at Canberra on Tuesday against the West Indies with a hamstring injury.<\/p>\n

The Victorian made 41 at the SCG<\/a> on Sunday afternoon, but didn't field after suffering the injury during his innings.<\/p>\n

McDermott's last appearance for Australia in one-day cricket came in April 2022 against Pakistan when he scored 36.<\/p>\n

The \ufeff29-year-old comes into the squad off the back of scoring 146 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield against Tasmania.<\/p>\n

The Queenslander\ufeff has played five ODIs in his career, averaging 44.60, with his one and only century coming on that same tour of Pakistan.<\/p>\n

While he hasn't appeared for the ODI team in over 22 months, McDermott did feature in Australia's T20 series against Indi last year. \ufeff<\/p>\n

McDermott's selection comes after Travis Head was released from the squad to manage his workload ahead of Australia's upcoming tour of New Zealand.<\/p>\n

Spencer Johnson and Xavier Bartlett could both make returns to the side when teams are announced on Tuesday for the final ODI.<\/p>\n
