T\ufeffhe connection Jack Wighton<\/a> and Latrell Mitchell<\/a> is the light at the end of the tunnel for Rabbitohs<\/a> fans – and it should bring the best out of the club's marquee man.<\/p>\n

The pair have formed a strong bond on and off the field from their time together in the representative arena, winning a World Cup for Australia in 2022 and multiple State of Origin series for NSW.<\/p>\n

The addition of Wighton to an already stacked South Sydney roster should catapult them back into premiership contention, after a horror late-season collapse last year saw the cardinal and myrtle miss the top-eight for the first time since 2017.<\/p>\n

In an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald<\/a>, Latrell explained the enormous impact his close mate has already had from an individual perspective and why he believes the former Raiders star is the perfect fit for the squad.<\/p>\n

"Jack is infectious \u2013 you want to be around people like that, and he shines a better light on some things," he said.<\/p>\n

"For me, it's Jack's energy \u2013 he's energetic about life, and he doesn't take everything so seriously. We bring out the inner child in each other, and don't take life too seriously.<\/p>\n

\ufeff"I'm chilled, but he makes me more chilled about things and situations … he'll bring me back down and puts a cool head on me.<\/p>\n

"It's only been three months, but for the next four years, there will be changes to the Rabbitohs' DNA. He's been the missing piece we've needed here at the Bunnies."<\/p>\n

Wighton brings more than 242 games of NRL experience to Redfern, while also performing at the highest level for the Blues and Kangaroos.<\/p>\n

And while the pre-season has allowed the 31-year-old to get his sea legs under him, the real test will come when Souths face Manly in Las Vegas on March 3.<\/p>\n

"Everything is warm and fuzzy at the moment … but it's when we get into the season, that's when we have to be honest with each other," he said.<\/p>\n

"If I'm not doing the hard work or little stuff, I want him to tell me, and vice versa. <\/p>\n

"When we're looking after each other during the season, that's when our real friendship and bond will come alive for Souths.\ufeff"<\/p>\n
