England is once again in the middle of the Spirit of Cricket debate after a controversial dismissal at the U19 World Cup in South Africa.<\/p>\n

England<\/a> batsman Hamza Sheik was given out obstructing the field in their match against Zimbabwe<\/a> in the Super-Six stage.<\/p>\n

Sheik attempted to drive spinner Ryan Simbi through the cover region, but got an inside edge onto his back foot. The ball stopped dead.<\/p>\n

Shaik picked it up and gave it to wicket-keeper \ufeffRyan Kamwemba, as is common when the ball is no longer moving. But controversy arose when Kamwemba appealed to the umpires.<\/p>\n

The moment was sent upstairs, before Sheik was given out. The England No.4 \ufefflooked furious as the call was made, before leaving the field.<\/p>\n

The dismissal comes under law 37.4 of cricket, that states\ufeff "either batter is out 'Obstructing the field' if, at any time while the ball is in play and, without the consent of a fielder, he\/she uses the bat or any part of his\/her person to return the ball to any fielder."<\/p>\n

The bizarre play sent the commentary team into a frenzy\ufeff, as well as England great fast bowler Stuart Broad.<\/p>\n

"Now what's happened here? Celebrations are going on in the Zimbabwe team, Hamza Sheik looks completely non-plussed and the two umpires are having a dismissal," Charles Dagnall said in commentary.<\/p>\n

"He's picked the ball up without the permission of the fielding side and maybe they're saying the ball was still live," Tino Mawoyo replied.<\/p>\n

"He's been given out obstructing the field. Hamza Shaikh is probably going to be absolutely livid," added Dagnall.<\/p>\n

"England have just lost a wicket in the most bizarre fashion."<\/p>\n

Broad added his opinion on the rare occurance.<\/p>\n

"Oh get a grip. He's passing a stationary ball back to the fielder? Doing him a favour! Cant give that out," he said via X.<\/p>\n

England went on to win the match by a massive 146 runs, rolling Zimbabwe for 91 in just 24.5 of a possible 50 overs. Both sides are now out of the competition.<\/p>\n

India will play South Africa in one semi-final on Tuesday, before Australia take on Pakistan in the other on Thursday.<\/p>\n
