LeBron James<\/a>' agent Rich Paul has denied that the legendary basketball player has asked for a trade away from the Los Angeles Lakers<\/a>, nor will he be traded by the franchise.<\/p>\n

James was the subject of trade rumours this week with the Lakers reportedly working on a transfer for James ahead of the NBA mid-season trade deadline on Thursday February 8.<\/p>\n

"LeBron won't be traded, and we aren't asking to be," Paul told ESPN on Saturday.<\/p>\n

With the Lakers' win-loss record at 25-25, and with the team positioned ninth in the Western Conference, it does not look like they will be fighting for a title this season.<\/p>\n

The Lakers have been active in trade talks over the past month, however if Paul's statement is to be believed, the Lakers may not be prepared to start rebuilding mid-season.<\/p>\n

James sent \ufeffthe rumour mill into overdrive on Wednesday when he posted an hourglass emoji to his X account following the Lakers 138-122 loss to the Hawks.<\/p>\n

Things only intensified after a reporter from \ufeffLos Angeles television station KTLA with strong links to James, David Pingalore, alleged that the Lakers were looking to move James on.<\/p>\n

"Hearing from @nba peeps @KingJames is at the top of the @Lakers list to trade the 39-year-old. [Rob] Pelinka is looking for the right team to dance with and is close to a suitor," Pingalore wrote on Friday.<\/p>\n

While \ufeffPingalore is not a household NBA reporter, he has a great track record when it comes to James.<\/p>\n

He correctly reported that James was looking into a return to his hometown team the Cavaliers from Miami in 2014 and that James would rejoin the Lakers in 2018.<\/p>\n

James did not feature in the Lakers' upset 114-105 win over the Celtics on Friday after he was sidelined with an ankle injury.<\/p>\n

\ufeffIn his 21st NBA season, James is averaging 24.9 points, 7.5 rebounds and 7.7 assists per game.<\/p>\n

After signing a two-year contract extension in 2022, James has a $78.8 million player option in his contract for the 2024-25 season with the Lakers. He has until June to make his decision.<\/p>\n
