St Kilda<\/a> coach Ross Lyon<\/a>\ufeff has remained cautious with his optimism ahead of the 2024 AFL season, despite his side's exciting run to September last year.<\/p>\n

The Saints leader used Geelong's fall from grace<\/a> – winning the 2022 premiership to missing the top eight just 12 months later – to explain his hesitation with being overly "excited".\ufeff<\/p>\n

"I think there would be something wrong if a club\ufeff and pre-season, with five draftees in and good availability, weren't excited," Lyon told media at Moorabbin on Friday.<\/p>\n

"(But) we know the comp is so even. I think\ufeff Geelong highlighted that last year. An incredibly dominant premier, you don't need much to go wrong.<\/p>\n

"As always, on edge and vigilant\ufeff."<\/p>\n

It comes as young forward Max King got through two thirds of the Saints' match simulation on Friday\ufeff.<\/p>\n
