L\ufeffewis Hamilton<\/a> sent the motorsport world into a spin on Friday morning after it was announced that he would depart Mercedes to join rival top-tier team Ferrari on a multi-year deal from 2025<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Coinciding with the news, organisers of the Australian Grand Prix<\/a> revealed on Friday that the 2025 edition of the event will return to the season-opening slot for the first time since 2020.<\/p>\n

This means that Hamilton's first official race weekend in red will occur Down Under.<\/p>\n

As part of the 10-year \ufeffdeal with the Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit<\/a> which was secured by the Andrews Labor Government last June, round one of the 2025 Formula 1 season will be staged in Melbourne.<\/p>\n

While the rest of the 2015 calendar is not expected to be released until later in the year, Melbourne will set the scene for Hamilton's Ferrari debut.<\/p>\n

Hamilton has fond memories from kicking off the Formula 1 season in Melbourne.<\/p>\n

In 2017, as a rookie driver for McLaren, Hamilton finished third in his debut race to record the first of his record 197 podiums.<\/p>\n

Melbourne has hosted the opening round of the Formula 1 season in 22 of its 26 runnings since the race was relocated from Adelaide in 1996.<\/p>\n

The first rounds of the 2006 and 2010 seasons were\ufeff held in Bahrain because of scheduling issues.<\/p>\n

The 2020 Australian Grand Prix saw the entire Formula 1 paddock travel to Melbourne, only to have the event postponed and later cancelled<\/a> just hours before practice was scheduled to begin as the COVID-19 pandemic gripped the world.<\/p>\n

The race was then not held in 2021 because of COVID-19 before \ufeffreturning to the calendar as the third race of the season in April 2022.<\/p>\n
