English Premier League<\/a> \ufeffclub Aston Villa<\/a> has announced the signing of Socceroos<\/a> goalkeeper Joe Gauci.<\/p>\n

The Adelaide United shot-stopper \ufeffwill complete the transfer once the Socceroos' Asian Cup campaign<\/a> ends.<\/p>\n

Aston Villa has not \ufeffpublicised the fee for Gauci but it's reportedly a record sum for an outbound Australian.<\/p>\n

Zejlko Kalac's $1.7 million move from Sydney United to Leicester City in 1995 was the record for 18 years before Jordan Bos moved from Melbourne City to KVC Westerlo in Belgium for $2m.<\/p>\n

Another former Melbourne City player, Marco Tilio, then moved to Celtic for just over $2m.<\/p>\n

The Sydney Morning Herald<\/a> reports Gauci's fee eclipses Tilio's. \ufeff<\/p>\n

The goalkeeper's rise to Aston Villa – which sits fifth on the EPL ladder – is a significant achievement considering \ufeffhe was in the NPL with Adelaide United in 2021.<\/p>\n

Gauci started his career with NPL club West Torrens Birkalla before moving to Central Coast Mariners.<\/p>\n

He then returned to the NPL with Adelaide City in 2019 before another shift to Melbourne City.<\/p>\n

After failing to play a game with the A-League heavyweights, Gauci returned home to United in 2020, playing 71 games for the club.<\/p>\n
