S\ufeffcotty James<\/a> has sent a message to snowboarding<\/a> icon Shaun White<\/a>, with the Aussie hopeful of beating one of the American's X Games record next year.<\/p>\n

Fresh off his third-straight gold medal in the halfpipe event<\/a>, the 29-year-old is now taking some time off in New York after a stellar victory in Colorado last weekend.\ufeff<\/p>\n

James has now won six titles in X Games and remains well behind White, who finished with 13 career golds in snowboarding and a further two in skateboarding.<\/p>\n

\ufeffBut in an interview with Wide World Of Sports radio<\/a>, the four-time Olympian reflected on drawing level for consecutive wins with the sport's biggest-ever star and why he wouldn't be resting on his laurels any time soon.<\/p>\n

"We're very excited about it and it's incredible company to stand beside him [White] with that feat, which is awesome," James said.<\/p>\n

"It's nice to stand by Shaun with this three-peat, but I think we've got to give it our best shot to take the record of four next year.<\/p>\n

\"Australian<\/p>\n

"It's such a tough field at the moment – I stayed on my toes the whole time. I was always making sure I had something up my sleeve if I had to.<\/p>\n

"It was pretty cool to get a bit of a victory lap there at the end … that's kind of the dream come true."<\/p>\n

James was presented his prize by fellow Aussie and Olympic gold medalist Torah Bright, who was on deck in Aspen for the event.<\/p>\n

After the victory, the Melbourne-born snowboarder said he "felt like a kid again", on which he elaborated on Thursday. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"I think I've been in the game now for a while and have fortunately had some good success, which has been fantastic," James said.<\/p>\n

"I keep applying myself and working really hard. To see out my vision and see it keep coming to fruition every season is really special and I don't take it for granted.<\/p>\n

"I've got a bit of a light step and a bit of joy in my riding, which has been really fun and something I'm obviously reflecting on. It definitely feels the same from when I was a junior and growing up snowboarding – it's nice."<\/p>\n

While the success has been continuous for James, he admitted the influence of his older brothers Tim and Sean have kept him "in check" over the years. \ufeff<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
