G\ufeffeelong<\/a> will need to work out a strong offer for highly-sought after wingman Max Holmes, with the young star out of contract at the end of 2024.<\/p>\n

The Cats will be forced to make some big decisions during the upcoming season, with no less than 15 of their senior players coming out of contract.<\/p>\n

It begs the question if Geelong may fall off the cliff after their 2022 premiership, with a large number of older players out of contract<\/p>\n

"Footy boss Andrew Mackie has plenty on his plate," 9News Melbourne's chief football reporter Tom Morris said on Thursday.<\/p>\n

13 free agents are currently on Geelong's list, headlined by triple premiership forward Tom Hawkins, captain Patrick Dangerfield, veteran Mitch Duncan.<\/p>\n

However, with that older group likely to remain one club players\ufeff, all eyes turn to 25-year-old premiership defender Zach Guthrie, as well as superstar wingman Holmes.<\/p>\n

Holmes, who is just 21-years-old, is out of contract come season's end.<\/p>\n

"The most attractive out-of-contract player at Geelong is clearly Max Holmes\ufeff," Morris said.<\/p>\n

"Clubs such as Collingwood were lining up for him (Holmes) next year.<\/p>\n

"No doubt his manager Tom Seccull will be fielding lots of calls."\ufeff<\/p>\n

The youngster's manager Seccull spoke last year to NewsCorp, reassuring Cats fans<\/p>\n

"He is really happy and invested in the future of the club and really settled," he said.<\/p>\n

"He is contracted for next year and we will sit down with the club and chat through his future when the time is right."\ufeff<\/p>\n

Geelong will host St Kilda in round one on Saturday, March 16 as they unveil their new Selwood Stand, named after four-time premiership star Joel Selwood<\/a>, increasing the capacity of GMHBA stadium to just over 40,000.\ufeff<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
