A\ufeffustralian high jumper Brandon Starc<\/a> has revealed he's battling a hip injury ahead of Paris 2024<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The two-time Olympian, who finished fifth at Tokyo 2020,\ufeff began struggling with a hip issue after last year's World Athletics Championships in Budapest.<\/p>\n

Prior to last year's event, Starc had overcome a broken collarbone<\/a><\/p>\n

Speaking to 9News on Tuesday, Starc opened \ufeffup on his recent woes, which he is hopeful of overcoming in time for the Olympic Games.<\/p>\n

"This is a very big mental challenge that I'm more than capable to get to the other side of," he said.<\/p>\n

"It's hard not to worry about it, because it's there every day and seeing where I should be at, compared to where I am at, is hard.<\/p>\n

"It might not be ideal, but we are still progressing.<\/p>\n

"The majority of my career I've performed at a major and that's kind of me – I'm a big-time performer.<\/p>\n

"I know I've got that behind me, I know I'm gonna step up at Paris – it's just getting through to Paris in the most ideal shape.<\/p>\n

"I wanted to achieve gold in Tokyo and that's 100 per cent what I'm trying to do in Paris. I'm not going there to be fifth again or one better in fourth – I'm going there to win."<\/p>\n

Starc holds a personal best of 2.36 metres and won a gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, as well as silver at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.<\/p>\n
