Australia<\/a> bounced back from its shock six-wicket loss to South Africa<\/a> on Sunday to clinch the T20 leg of the multi-format tour with a five-wicket win at Blundstone Arena on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n

Earlier in the week, the Proteas recorded their first-ever victory against Australia<\/a> after restricting the hosts to 6-142 before benefiting from an ordinary fielding effort.<\/p>\n

But on this occasion, \ufeffBeth Mooney<\/a> overcame sickness to star with the bat as Australia combatted a best-ever total of 7-162 from South Africa to secure the final-over win.<\/p>\n

With the result, Australia triumphed in the \ufeffT20 series 2-1 and holds a 4-2 lead in the points-based multi-format series.<\/p>\n

Opener Mooney rose from her sickbed to produce a crucial 82 runs from 55 deliveries after captain Alyssa Healy (10 off 7) and Ellyse Perry (13 off 10) were dismissed inside the first seven overs.<\/p>\n

Healy later explained that \ufeffMooney, who was named player of the match, was a victim of "dodgy sashimi".<\/p>\n

"\ufeffThere was a real possibility that she wouldn't play and we had a plan in place if she didn't, but she got the ground and had a good warm-up, and felt like she was able to contribute which was handy," she told media.<\/p>\n

Unlike on Sunday, \ufeffAustralia decided to bowl first which paid dividends as South Africa found itself in a hole at 3-28 after the first five overs.<\/p>\n

An 80-run fourth wicket partnership between Marizanne Kapp (75 off 48) and Anneke Bosch (21 off 24) helped steady the ship for the Proteas' innings en route to their highest score against Australia in a T20.<\/p>\n

But Mooney's knock and the finishing touches from Ashleigh Gardner (26 not out from 17) saw Australia over the line with four balls to spare.<\/p>\n

"Not my best day as a human being, I'll put that out there. But managed to get the job done for the team when it mattered," Mooney told Fox Cricket post-match about feeling ill most of the day.<\/p>\n

The teams will now commence the ODI leg of the multi-format tour with the first match to be played at Adelaide Oval on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The rest of the tour includes \ufeffthree one-day matches and a standalone Test.<\/p>\n

"[South Africa] have played some very good cricket," Mooney said.<\/p>\n
