Former Aussie world champion George Kambosos<\/a>\ufeff laughed off claims made by ex-titleholder Paulie Malignaggi, who told Pro Box TV the Sydney fighter should retire after his fight with Vasily Lomachenko.<\/p>\n

ESPN reports Kambosos will fight Ukraine great Lomachenko for the vacant IBF lightweight title on May 12 in Perth. The fight has not been made official yet.<\/p>\n

A win for Kambosos will propel him back into the bigger fights in the division after\ufeff scoring a controversial win against Maxi Hughes.<\/p>\n

That victory was the first since his famous world title win over Teofimo Lopez in 2021, after back-to-back losses against Devin Haney.<\/p>\n

Malignaggi, a former IBF and WBA champion\ufeff at junior welterweight and welterweight, declared Kambosos doesn't have a chance against Lomachenko and envisions the Aussie retiring after the fight.<\/p>\n

"I think he probably barely wins a round or doesn't win a round in this fight either," Malignaggi told Pro Box TV.<\/p>\n

"If that happens, it will be an embarrassing night for Kambosos.<\/p>\n

"I feel like he should retire after this fight," continued Maliganggi. "He's been able to set himself up financially in these fights.<\/p>\n

"Credit to him for being able to maximise a win so well, like he was able to in the Lopez fight."<\/p>\n

Kambosos responded to the comments on social media, taking a few jabs at the former fighter, who also dabbled in bare knuckle fighting.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"And I believe you haven't been relevant since 2013! When AB took your girl & belt. You've been beaten up by mma fighters in bare knuckle & sparring, & kicked out of events since You believe your own bullshit, got 1 thing right though, Kambosos depositing another hefty check," he wrote.<\/p>\n
