L\ufeffleyton Hewitt<\/a> shared some words of wisdom with Australian Open<\/a> winner Jannik Sinner<\/a>, urging the young star to allow his breakthrough moment to 'settle in' throughout the year.<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old earned his maiden grand slam triumph on Sunday night in dramatic fashion, coming from two sets down against Daniil Medvedev<\/a> to record a 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 victory.<\/p>\n

Sinner became the youngest men's winner at Melbourne Park since Novak Djokovic<\/a> – the man he defeated in the semis – 15 years ago.<\/p>\n

After bursting onto the scene a few years ago, Sinner had struggled to take his game to the next level, but now sits alongside Carlos Alcaraz<\/a> as the only current male touring player under the age of 25 with a singles major to his name.<\/p>\n

Hewitt himself had a meteoric rise at a young age, \ufefftaking out the US Open at 20, and revealed on the Nine broadcast the nature of reaching the mountaintop early in a career.<\/p>\n

"It's a bit surreal, to be honest," he said.<\/p>\n

"When it happened to me at the age of 20, it took me by storm.<\/p>\n

"You always dream of being in these situations, but until it actually happens – the weeks, the months – that's when it really settles in.<\/p>\n

"Then you actually think about what an accomplishment it was and what an achievement you've produced."<\/p>\n

Hewitt would go on to claim Wimbledon at 21 years of age but then played the rest of his professional career without a grand slam win. \ufeff<\/p>\n

Sinner however finds himself in the box seat to become the face of men's tennis for the next decade alongside Alcaraz, with his improvement and work ethic now translating to on-court success.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"He's been a young guy in a hurry in a lot of ways and he's put a team around him to produce results like this," Hewitt said.<\/p>\n

"To his credit, he's gone out there and keeps trying to add to his game and improve areas of his game that he and his team felt were necessary … and now, he holds up his first major title.<\/p>\n

"There's been plenty of talk about him for three or four years now, that he's a possible grand slam champion in the making and possible world No.1 as well, but Alcaraz came out of nowhere and really took that from him.<\/p>\n

"I think that really spurred Jannik on as well, to try and find a way to be able to win these titles."<\/p>\n

Sinner dropped just one set – a narrow tie-breaker with Djokovic – in the lead-up to his showdown with Medvedev, but showed his true toughness when the decks were stacked against him.<\/p>\n

The popular Italian star has become a cult hero in Melbourne and there's no doubt fans will be lining up to watch him in 2025.<\/p>\n

"His life is always going to be associated with winning the Australian Open," Jim Courier remarked on the Nine coverage.<\/p>\n

"It won't be just that, he has big aspirations to keep adding to his tally … he's been a man with a plan for quite some time.<\/p>\n
