Reigning Australian Open<\/a> champion Novak Djokovic<\/a> has issued a chilling warning to the next generation of the men's draw after booking a ticket to his ninth final at Melbourne Park.<\/p>\n

The world No.1 has looked well below his best for large parts of this tournament, but showed no ill-effects from a lingering injury he has been dealing with, dismissing Russian qualifier Aslan Karatsev in a 6-3 6-4 6-2 demolition job<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer are still the three top players in the men's game, while Nadal and Federer won't have a shot at winning the Australian Open, the Serb said he had no plans to relinquish his throne to the likes of Daniil Medvedev<\/a> or Stefanos Tsitsipas<\/a> just yet.<\/p>\n

"Certainly they will be the leaders of the future of tennis, without a doubt, but I'm not going to stand here and hand it over to them," he told Eurosport.<\/p>\n

"I'm going to make them work their a– off for it,<\/p>\n

"With all my respect about the other guys, they still have a lot of work to do."<\/p>\n

Standing between him and a ninth Australian Open crown will be one of Medvedev or Tsitsipas, with the pair set to face off in the second semi-final on Friday night. <\/p>\n

Prior to the upcoming final, Djokovic assessed the strengths of both young stars.<\/p>\n

"Daniil Medvedev is the player to beat. He's on a big winning streak," Djokovic said after his win in the semi-final.<\/p>\n

"He ended out the season best possible fashion. I mean, winning quite comfortably, actually, against top players, against myself in straight sets in London, and he just has improved a lot. <\/p>\n

"He has a big serve. For a tall guy, he moves extremely well. Forehand maybe was his weaker shot, but he has improved that, as well. Backhand is as good as it gets. <\/p>\n

"He's so solid. He doesn't give you much. But he's not afraid nowadays to attack and get to the net and take it to his opponents.<\/p>\n

"Also, I heard Jim Courier calling him a master chess player because of the way he tactically positions himself on the court, and it's true. You know,he's definitely very smart tennis player.<\/p>\n

"On the other hand, Tsitsipas is also on a roll. He's playing really well. He won a couple of matches in the ATP Cup against good opponents. <\/p>\n

"He had a tough one against (Thanasi) Kokkinakis and Nadal and he managed to win those in five sets, which is very impressive. <\/p>\n

"Even though a five-setter takes a lot out of your energy, it gives you a lot of confidence and makes you kind of feel better about yourself in the next match. <\/p>\n

"He's definitely going in the right direction. He's very solid, all-around player. He has no holes in his game,as well.<\/p>\n

"It's finals. So, you know, you have to expect that you're going to play the finals against one of the best players in the world. To win one of the greatest titles in the world, you've got to be the best. I will make sure I'm ready for that."<\/p>\n
