Jurgen Klopp<\/a> has announced he will step down as Liverpool<\/a> manager at the end of this season.<\/p>\n

Klopp has led Liverpool to a Champions League title and Premier League<\/a> championship in his tenure after being hired in October 2015.<\/p>\n

He made the shock announcement Friday that he will resign at the end of the season, saying he is \u201crunning out of energy.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI have to. I will leave the club at the end of the season. I can understand that it\u2019s a shock for a lot of people in this moment when you hear it for the first time, but obviously I can explain it or at least try to explain it,\u201d Klopp said via the club's website.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love absolutely everything about this club, I love everything about the city, I love everything about our supporters, I love the team. I love the staff. I love everything.<\/p>\n

"That I still take this decision probably shows you that I\u2019m convinced it\u2019s the one I have to take. It is that I\u2019m \u2014 how can I say this? \u2014 that I\u2019m running out of energy.\u201d<\/p>\n

With Liverpool currently on top of the EPL ladder, five points clear of Manchester City who are a game behind, Klopp's decision will come as a surprise.<\/p>\n

The European heavyweights were expected to be in the mix for Champions League qualification but their title contention has come as somewhat of a surprise considering a fifth placed finish last season.<\/p>\n

Klopp also led Liverpool to Carabao Cup final against Chelsea to be played on February 26\ufeff after Liverpool defeated Fulham on aggregate.<\/p>\n

\ufeffThe legendary manager explained the decision had been made three months ago as he reassured fans the decision isn't related to any health issues.<\/p>\n

"I am OK. I am healthy, as much as you can [be] at my age. Little bits and bobs, stuff like that, but nothing anybody has to be concerned about, so that's absolutely fine," he said.<\/p>\n

"I told the club already in November.<\/p>\n

"I have to explain a little bit that maybe the job I do people see from the outside, I'm on the touchline and in training sessions and stuff like this, but the majority of all the things happen around these kind of things. That means a season starts and you plan pretty much the next season already. When we sat there together talking about potential signings, the next summer camp and can we go wherever, the thought came up, 'I am not sure I am here then anymore' and I surprised myself by that.<\/p>\n

"I obviously started thinking about it. It didn't start [then], but of course last season was kind of a super-difficult season and there were moments when at other clubs probably the decision would have been, 'Come on, thank you very much for everything but probably we should split here, or end it here.' That didn't happen here, obviously.<\/p>\n

"For me it was super, super, super-important that I can help to bring this team back onto the rails. It was all I was thinking about. When I realised pretty early that happened, it's a really good team with massive potential and a super age group, super characters and all that, then I could start thinking about myself again and that was the outcome.
