A rare occurrence prolonged the third set of an epic tussle between Novak Djokovic<\/a> and Jannik Sinner<\/a> with a fan drawing the attention of paramedics as the two superstars were locked up at 5-5.<\/p>\n

Sinner blew the reigning champion off the court early 6-1, 6-2 – but Djokovic was able to bounce back and dig deep into his bag of tricks to avoid a straight-sets loss.\ufeff<\/p>\n

He was given a timely breather with the set steaming towards a tiebreaker, with play stopped so a man could get medical attention in his seat in the stands of Rod Laver Arena.<\/p>\n

The chair umpire was on the phone trying to get an understanding of the situation, but the players were forced to sit courtside as it played out.<\/p>\n

"I think we have a medical situation in the stands, it is just going to halt play at the moment," Jim Courier said during the Nine broadcast.<\/p>\n

"It is awkward, just from a competitive standpoint in the timing of this match."<\/p>\n

Both men regained their composure and took the set to a tie-breaker, with Sinner failing to capitalise on a match point and Djokovic eventually emerging to peg back the Italian's advantage, pumping his fist after serving out at 8-6 and forcing the contest into a fourth set. \ufeff<\/p>\n

The events in the crowd and the break seemingly acted as a circuit-breaker for Djokovic, who was struggling to deal with the speed and court coverage of his much younger opponent at Melbourne Park.\ufeff<\/p>\n
