M\ufeffitchell Starc<\/a> is nearing the record wicket-taking tally of Dennis Lillee<\/a> after taking four wickets on day one of the second Test against the West Indies<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Starc removed Tagenarine Chanderpaul\ufeff, Alick Athanaze, Justin Greaves and Kavem Hodge in an up and down day for Australia.<\/p>\n

The left-armer now has 352 Test wickets and is fifth on the all-time list for Australia. Lillee finished his career with 355. By passing the 350 mark, Starc now joined the company of Lillee, Nathan Lyon, Glenn McGrath and Shane Warne.<\/p>\n

Australia started the day on fire after the West Indies won the toss and elected to bat at the Gabba.<\/p>\n

The tourists' top and middle order struggled to contain the fast bowling trio of Starc, Hazlewood and Cummins and were 5-64 just before the tea break.<\/p>\n

Joshua Da Silva and Kavem Hodge then combined to frustrate the Australians, with no wickets taken in the second session.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffI was bloody bored out there at deep square leg," Mitchell Marsh said on Fox Cricket at the dinner break.<\/p>\n

"The ball's got pretty soft, the wicket's good, a flat wicket, we have to work hard and hopefully \ufeffwith the lights on it starts to do something."\ufeff<\/p>\n

The two batters continued to torment the home side\ufeff as Cameron Green dropped a diving effort off Kavem Hodge who was on 59 not out at the time.<\/p>\n

Australia eventually secured a breakthrough when Lyon trapped Da Silva lbw for 79 with the West Indies 6-213.<\/p>\n

Overall, the partnership between Da Silva and Hodge was 149, the highest against the Aussies since Joe Root and Zak Crawley combined in the fourth Ashes test for 206 last year. \ufeff\ufeff<\/p>\n

Da Silva's departure brought about a \ufeffbatting collapse with Hodge falling on 71 for Starc's 352nd wicket.<\/p>\n
