G\ufefflenn Maxwell<\/a> will return to the Australian team for the upcoming T20 series against the West Indies despite copping an ultimatum from national team coach Andrew McDonald<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Maxwell has this week been back in the headlines after he was hospitalised in Adelaide at the end of a boozy day<\/a> at several different events.<\/p>\n

McDonald told him he needed to \ufefftake some responsibility for his future but selectors immediately backed him by naming him in a squad to play the West Indies<\/a>, which was announced on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

While Maxwell \ufeffwas named in the team, Test stars Pat Cummins<\/a> and Mitchell Starc<\/a> have been rested. Steve Smith also missed out on the squad, with Cricket Australia confirming all three would likely return to the T20 squad for the upcoming tour of New Zealand.<\/p>\n

Big names to return to the squad include David Warner, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Marsh, who will resume the captaincy.<\/p>\n

"We see these matches as an opportunity to narrow down on those who may be part of the T20 World Cup squad later this year," selection boss George Bailey said.<\/p>\n

"There are a further three T20 internationals in New Zealand following this West Indies Series where we will continue to build towards the T20WC as required.<\/p>\n

"It is likely we will use the block of six games to provide opportunity to players in some different roles and positions.<\/p>\n

"We will then be keeping a close eye on the IPL before choosing a World Cup squad."<\/p>\n

Australia will play the West Indies in three T20 matches on February 9, 11 and 13.\ufeff<\/p>\n
