A\ufeffsh Barty<\/a> is set to continue her career in top level sport with an appearance at golf's New Zealand Open, starting late next month.<\/p>\n

The Aussie former tennis world No.1 was on Tuesday announced as a headliner\ufeff, making her appearance as part of an "ambassador line-up".<\/p>\n

The tournament will be played at Queenstown's Millbrook Resort\ufeff and will take place between February 29 and March 3.<\/p>\n

Barty, who retired from tennis<\/a> unexpectedly soon after winning the Australian Open<\/a> in 2022, gave birth to her first child, Hayden<\/a>, in July last year.<\/p>\n

She has all but ruled out a comeback to the tennis court, despite the fact that she is still just 27 and there are several other women who have made successful comebacks after having children.<\/p>\n

However, she still has the itch to play regular sport and is a keen golfer, boasting an outstanding handicap \ufeffof 4.<\/p>\n

In 2022 she played in the Icons Golf Series in New Jersey alongside other international sporting icons like American swimming legend Michael Phelps, English footballer Harry Kane and former Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting.<\/p>\n

"The New Zealand Open is a fantastic event and I really enjoyed my time there this year supporting our friend Louis Dobbelaar," said Barty. <\/p>\n

"New Zealand is a beautiful country and somewhere I always love to visit.<\/p>\n

"Having the opportunity to play in the pro-am event in 2024 is something I'm excited about, though I definitely need to start practising! <\/p>\n

"Golf has always been a passion of mine, I feel fortunate to be able to play in events like the New Zealand Open and experience an incredible course like Millbrook.<\/p>\n

"I imagine that first tee shot in front of everyone will be quite nerve-wracking, but once the first ball hits the fairway, hopefully things should settle down.
