Australian cricket captain Pat Cummins<\/a> \ufeffhas declared players have to "own" their decisions off the field after Glenn Maxwell<\/a>'s drunken incident in Adelaide.<\/p>\n

Maxwell was hospitalised after attending the concert of Brett Lee's band Six and Out<\/a> with reports suggesting he was suffering from dehydration.<\/p>\n

\ufeffAhead of the second Test against the West Indies, Cummins was asked directly about the incident and whether Maxwell had a problem with alcohol but stated it's "not for me today".<\/p>\n

However, the skipper did reveal he was \ufeffat The Gov, the pub where Six and Out were performing but he "left pretty early".<\/p>\n

"I knew he was in town but I didn't see Maxi at all," Cummins said.<\/p>\n

Cricket Australia<\/a> executive general manager of community cricket and capability, James Allsopp, confirmed he's only aware of the basic details.<\/p>\n

"I'm not fully across the incident, I know we're looking into it at the moment but we're trying to look at the facts before we take it any further," he said.<\/p>\n

"All we know \ufeffis that there was an incident involving alcohol and Glenn was not well at the end of the day, that's all we know at this point in time."<\/p>\n

It's the third controversial incident in just over a year for Maxwell after breaking his leg at a party \ufeffin November 2022. He also fell off the back of a golf cart at the ODI World Cup, concussing himself and missing a match.<\/p>\n

Cummins, who has fostered a culture of individuality under his leadership, agreed players need to have the responsibility to make smart choices.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffWe're all adults and part of being an adult is you make your own decisions and I suppose in this actual incident, he obviously wasn't on tour with Australia, he was over there for a private event, he wasn't with a cricket team, so it's a little bit different but absolutely, any decision you make you've got to own it and be comfortable with it," he said.<\/p>\n

The \ufeff30-year-old added how proud he was of the group's achievements under the current culture, after winning the World Test Championship, retaining the Ashes and being crowned ODI World Cup champions in 2023.<\/p>\n

"In terms of performance on the field can't really ask for \ufeffmuch more from the way the players have performed but also the way we've gone about it," he said.<\/p>\n

"The team's shown incredible discipline and I think we've made a lot of people incredibly proud with the way we've gone about it over the last couple of years."<\/p>\n
