Clubs involved in the NRL's\ufeff<\/a> season-opening double-header in Las Vegas<\/a> have called for an urgent meeting with ARLC chairman\ufeff Peter V'Landys<\/a> over several unresolved issues.<\/p>\n

Manly, Brisbane, South Sydney and the Roosters leave for the US in less than a month ahead of matches at Allegiant Stadium on March 2, but still have no clarity over visas, medical insurance, training venues in Las Vegas amid rising costs, according to The Sydney Morning Herald<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The teams involved were told that players could travel to the US on an ESTA, which waives the need for a visa.<\/p>\n

Clubs were privately concerned that some players who had criminal convictions in the past could be stopped from entering the country by customs at the airport.\ufeff<\/p>\n

But the clubs were reportedly notified by email last week\ufeff that players now had three options – enter on an athletes' visa, a visitors' visa, or an ESTA.<\/p>\n

It also warned that players who had been previously arrested by the police in Australia could face challenges getting into the US.<\/p>\n

The lack of urgency has left the clubs involved frustrated, especially since they have expressed concern over these issues since last October. They also emailed the NRL in mid-December but the code's CEO, Andrew Abdo, was spruiking the games in Las Vegas at the time.<\/p>\n

The clubs have called for more input from V'Landys\ufeff, who acknowledged their concerns.<\/p>\n

"I understand their frustrations," he told the publication.<\/p>\n

"However, I'm a 100 per cent confident all the matters will be resolved very quickly. I appreciate their strong support for the concept.<\/p>\n

"We're all on the same team promoting this. If it succeeds, it could be one of the greatest things to happen to the game."<\/p>\n

Abdo would not specifically address the clubs' concerns, but told the SMH: "Anything new like this is going to have its challenges. We're working really hard to resolve some of the issues we're facing given the scale and magnitude of this.<\/p>\n

"I'm confident the appropriate solutions will be in place as a matter of priority in coming days and weeks."<\/p>\n

The report claims ticket sales have barely moved since the NRL's promotional visit before Christmas, with only 1000 tickets sold, bringing the total sum according to V'Landys to 21,000.<\/p>\n

The double-header has been heavily promoted in the US on Fox Sports 1, which will broadcast both matches, while V'landys said a broader campaign would be launched in coming weeks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
